Spirit
\ˈspir-ət\
Noun: temperament or disposition of mind of a person; the activating or essential principle influencing a person
How do you describe camp spirit? More importantly, how do you encourage a child to embrace and channel their spirit to develop the confidence to overcome challenges they have never faced before – and have tons of fun doing so? These are the questions that we ask our leadership team and counselors every off-season and summer.
There is no simple answer to the questions above as each child has a unique level of confidence and spirit to face new challenges. This is why all campers are encouraged to unbridle their enthusiasm and exude positivity throughout the camp day and in their lives. Our staff is trained to model – 10% is what happens and 90% is attitude.
When we hear our leadership team and campers talking about what spirit (and the High 5 Program) “looks” like, or how they earned their spirit achievement, they say:
- “Attacks the day with positivity”
- “Always ready to go”
- “Embraces new experiences”
- “Loves to participate”
- “Never gives up”
