Respect
\ri-ˈspekt\
Noun: a feeling or understanding that someone or something is important, serious, etc., and should be treated in an appropriate way
Respect is a big concept for children to grasp. It is a critical life-long value that all successful people possess and master. As part of the High 5 Program, we guide our campers in understanding how to act with respect for others and the importance of self-respect.
When we hear our leadership team and campers talking about what respect (and the High 5 Program) “looks” like, or how they earned their respect achievement, they say:
- “How you treat someone”
- “Not calling people mean names”
- “Listening to counselors and not talking back”
- “Caring for the environment”
- “Talking through things and listening to the other person even if you don’t agree”
